[From Original Website] With no shortage of musical experience lending to his sound, Bevis pulls from a wide array of influences. A deep-rooted love for Raphael Saadiq, Mint Condition and 90’s R&B, and a long history of growing up and playing jazz drums in very much a ‘never say no to a gig’ mentality, it’s not surprising his many influences are heard throughout his tracks. Bevis creates a unique juxtaposition of pain and optimism with acoustic guitar, vinyl samples, synth bass and live drums to provide the dramatic backdrop for his understated and broken voice.
Holy Oker taps into universal emotions yet reveals them in a way that’s very much unique. Bathed in synth-hooks and catchy choruses, Holy Oker combines an ultra-spirited Fischerspooner with a twist of Miike Snow-inspired melodies and a touch of Toro Y Moi on the high notes. His soulful voice and heartfelt lyrics blend together unexpectedly to mask the tender core of heartache with a cheerful outer shell.
