Roz Bell

Roz+Bell[From Wikipedia] Kevin Rosaire Bellemare, known professionally as Roz Bell, is a Canadian singer-songwriter, best known for his hit singles “Yesterday Man” and “Papercut”. Roz Bell was raised in Holland Landing, Ontario, Canada, a small farming community north of Toronto. Bell grew up listening to a wide variety of music which influenced him, from the country music favored by his parents to pop he heard on AM radio as a kid.
In the mid 1990’s, Bell discovered hip-hop and started writing rap songs with a schoolyard pal, Luis ‘Louwop’ Segura. The two friends recorded more than an album’s worth of songs produced by friend and mentor, Tallis ‘Tallisman’ Newkirk (nelstar*, Plains of Fascination, unit-e). The album, ‘Telescopic Encounters’ (download | stream) was never released. He became interested in rock music early in high school, and bought his first guitar at the age of 14.
In 1998, Bell moved to Toronto, where he immersed himself in the city’s diverse music scene. Under the alias ‘Troubadour,’ Roz Bell was an integral member of the Toronto based hip-hop collective unit-e, and recorded numerous tracks with the crew including the underground classics Planet of the Apes and One Emcee.[1]
Composing music while living in various apartments and trying to get noticed, fourteen of his songs eventually came together as his debut album, The First Sunbeams, released on Universal Records on September 25, 2007.[2] The album was produced almost entirely by James Robertson (Esthero, Skye Sweetnam) and was mixed by Neal Pogue (Outkast, Citizen Cope, Transplants).[1] The album received critical acclaim and spawned two hit singles in ‘Yesterday Man’ and ‘Papercut’. Roz was nominated for a Canadian Music Radio Award in 2008. In touring the album, he shared the stage with Robin Thicke, Hanson, Vanessa Carlton, Plain White T’s and many others.
Roz parted ways with Universal and released his second album, October through his own label, Enacy. The album featured the hit single ‘Heart Attack’ which peaked at #30 on the Canadian Hot AC Charts.
Roz has recently had music placed in films and TV shows including 90210, Being Erica and Van Wilder 3. His Christmas song, Happy Holidays To You was featured in the 2011 Pringles holiday campaign throughout North America.
Recently, Roz has been writing for other artists. He spends his time between Toronto and Nashville.
